Events

June 2008, Opening of the Second Store!
There's another "Great Things in Store" that opened not too long ago. The first one is located on the Almond Street, while the other is located in Dartmouth, on 95 Caledonia Street. :D Many people joined Melvin as they all celebrated the success, with Thelma cutting the cake, and the traditional red ribbon cut. You're more than welcome to stop by any of the two stores for some shopping. The new one is built quite like the first one, but more reliable for the Dartmouth customers. Look out for more. It's about to become an international chain. :D

Look for pictures coming soon!

August 31, 2007 Fund Drive
Thank you to all the generous motorists who donated on August 31st. Thanks to Z103 for bringing out on of your great people to help with the day. The morning was great, sadly we were rained out in the afternoon. We look forward to our next fund drive. Only with change can a difference be made.

2007 International Busker Festival - Halifax
Parker Street was at the Busker Festival giving away balloons and ballots for a LaZboy recliner. The winner of the recliner is Audrey Johnston of Shearwater. Congratulations Audrey. Thanks to LaZboy Furniture Gallery for the generous donation of the recliner, and to The Daily News for their supply of newspapers, signage and on site support. Thanks to everyone who donated, and participated in the draw!

Building Supply Customer Associate Program Sees Great Success
Parker Street's Skills Development Programs have another class of successful graduates. All six of the graduates from this program are working now in their field of training!

May 30th, 2007 - Molson Canada Donates to Parker Street with Launch of New Community Investment Program
Molson Canada has been involved in the communities in which they operate since the company began operation in 1786. Parker Street's Skills Development Program received one of five donations given out this day to different charitable and not-for-profit organizations across Canada. Parker Street's executive director Mel Boutilier said "This contribution from Molson will help us to improve the quality of life for families and give people greater opportunities for success." Duane Irvine, Regional Manager for Molson Canada in the Atlantic Provinces said "We hope that through this partnership, Parker Street will be able to train even more people in our community - giving them the self-sufficiency and a sense of pride and accomplishment."

May 2007 Fund Drive
Friday May 11th Parker Street held our 4th Fund Drive. As in past events, we were located at the intersection of Bayers Rd. and Connaught Ave. (all day) as well as Portland St., Baker Dr. and Woodlawn Dr. (AM only). Parker Street relies on the help of volunteers and the generosity of motorists for this event to be successful. Thank you to all the volunteers who came out and helped with the drive and to the motorists who donated so generously. Your change has helped to make a difference!

Great Things In Store
In a continuing effort to support their many Halifax Regional Municipality community based activities, Parker Street Food and Furniture Bank has opened a new retail store “Great Things in Store”. Great Things In Store offers a wide range of new and used merchandise including clothing, antiques, small household appliances and furniture. “You never know what new things we’ll have in stock from day to day”, said Mel Boutilier, Executive Director of the Parker Street Food and Furniture Bank. “Our objective is to offer a wide range of items in the moderate price range – good quality at prices people can afford. We’re very pleased with our selection of reasonably priced antiques and household items. As our name implies, we’ll have great things in store!” Great Things In Store is located at 6110 Almon Street in Halifax, across from the Post Office. Store Hours will Sunday through Friday from 10AM to 4 PM daily.

Snows Funeral Home and Mattatall Funeral Home Fund Drive in Support of Parker Street Food and Furniture Bank
On November 4th 2006, Snows and Mattatall Funeral Homes supported the Parker Street Food and Furniture Bank with the 2nd annual Fund Drive. The Snows drive was located at the corner of Bayers and Connaught. The event drew volunteer support from across the community including members of the 2501 Army Cadet Squadron who helped us all day. The Mattatall Funeral Home had their fund drive located at the intersection of Portland St., Baker Drive and Woodlawn Drive. Their were a number of volunteers, Mattatalls staff, Regional Residential Society Services and a number of Students from Prince Andrew High as well as Cadets from the Duke of Edinburgh division, and also Chris Greek of NSCC who helped in coordinating this event. With out them this event would not have been as successful as it was. All pitched in collecting money and raising awareness about the work of the Parker Street Food and Furniture Bank. The event was a great success! New friendships were made as we braved the newly cold weather together for a great cause.

THANK YOU to all the generous motorists who kindly contributed to the Parker Street Food and Furniture Bank's support of those in need!
