- Parker Street Food & Furniture Bank is a not-for-profit organization that provides food, furniture, skills development, mentoring and support services to the residents of the Halifax Regional Municipality.
- It is a registered charitable organization administered by the Community Care Network Society - Charitable Registration Number: 14015 1465 RR0001
- Parker Street Food Bank officially began operation in 1983. The Furniture Bank was established in 1995 at a separate location. In 1999, the two entities merged to operate in the same building at 2415 Maynard Street Halifax.
- In 2001, Parker Street began its Information Technology Program. This program, runs in co-operation with and is accredited by the Nova Scotia Community College. Since that time, 334 students have completed courses offered through this program.
- In 2003, we commenced our Job Skills Development Programs, which we continue to expand and grow by bringing skilled workers into industry. To date, 136 students have successfully completed our programs.
- In 2009, our furniture division distributed over 7,000 items, 300 small appliances and approximately 2,500 articles of clothing. Not included in these statistics are over 1000 non-inventory household items such as kitchen utensils, dishes, cutlery, linens, bedding, curtains, drapes, etc.
