NewsJune & July 2008: First off, I'd like to welcome you to the the Parker Street Food and Furniture Website, Version 2.1! :D I hope you enjoy the new design, and if you have any issues with it, or you see anything that doesn't look like it should be there, email me at magicalxmel@hotmail.com, and I'll do my best to sort it out. :] These days, we're being kept busy here at the Food Bank, and as Melvin always says, "Great Things are Happening." June 2007: Parker Street's parent organization, Community Care Network Society, cemented an on-going partnership with the Nova Scotia Community College by signing an Memorandum of Understanding which allows us to have our Information Technology courses accredited by NSCC. This accreditation will allow our graduates to transfer the credits earned here at Community Care Skills Development Centre to the NSCC to be use towards additional courses and programs. We look forward to working closely with NSCC in the future to improve and expand our courses. We also look forward to providing a steady stream of graduates into the work force, and allowing students to continue their lifelong learning in NSCC's programs. April 2007: Great Things In Store opened April 1st. The store, offers a wide range of new and used merchandise including clothing, antiques, small household appliances and furniture. The Grand Opening was a wonderful success. Funds from the sale of products is used to support Parker Street's services and programs. The store is located at 6110 Almon St Halifax. Hours of operation are from 9am - 5pm Sunday thru Friday. August 2006: From August 10 -20th Parker Street had a informational booth set up at the 19th Annual International Busker Festival. Here we raffled of free tickets for a child's pay house which was generously donated by Service Canada's Skills Competition. This event was a huge success in bringing awareness to the services provided by Parker Street and the need in the community. Over 2300 helium filled balloons were given out. July 2006: There were eight new graduates from the Community Care Network's Building Supply Customer Associate Program. Jobs await most of the grads. We are so proud of them all - well done! October 2004: The Turkey Club Society launched its 2004 campaign at Parker Street. $20 gets you a membership card, an exclusive lapel pin and a tax receipt for the entire amount of your donation. The goal is to raise sufficient funds to pay for our Christmas Dinner hampers. Thank you, Jack Cruickshank and the board of The Turkey Club Society, for choosing Parker Street as the main beneficiary of this year's campaign. Visit www.turkeyclub.org to learn more or to join. September 2004: We welcome a new partner to Parker Street: Lucasville and Upper Hammonds Plains Development Association are presenting their well-established 12-week Customer Service Employability Program at Parker Street. Soon, ten lucky people will be that much closer to full-time employment. Contact Us: |
